In August of 1993, God gave Dr. Paula Harrell the initiative to form a youth choir at White Rock Baptist Church. She approached Mr. Calvin Motley, who would become the choir's director, and Ms. Crystal Jamison, who would become the choir's first pianist. At the coming together of these three minds, the Lord blessed the union and the choir had its first rehearsal on the second Thursday night in September of 1993.
After many rehearsals, and much prayer, The choir made its debut on the third Sunday in October 1993. A mighty journey had begun. The choir consisted of 6 members with Ms. Jamison at the piano. Within the next month, after some deliberation, the choir became the White Rock Baptist Church Community Choir. Along with a new name came new members. By the 1994 anniversary date the Lord had blessed the choir to triple in size. In addition to Crystal on the piano there was a bass guitarist, Mr. Jerome Motley, and a drummer, Mr. James Smith.
In the next year the Mass Choir began to travel with their anointed ministry in song. The choir has supported some local churches and institutions and has traveled to various parts of northeastern North Carolina. During this time, the choir was without a permanent pianist and in May of 1995, the Lord sent Mr. Arnold George to the choir's aid and finally, the new name, the White Rock Mass Choir was accepted.
In 1996, under the directorship of Mr. Mark Davis, the choir grew to 30 members and we could truly see where the Lord had brought this choir from. The ministry was strong truly inspirational. Thus, the choir name changed again to the Inspirational Voices. The music ministry of this great choir was temporarily interrupted from 1997-1998.
On November 8, 1998, Mr. Thomas Vanhook took over the directorship of the choir. And the Inspirational voices grew to be 62 voices strong. The ministry and the membership grew tremendously under his musical and spiritual leadership. The choir added musicians, Mr. Jermaine Scott, drummer, and Mr. James Carr, guitarist. We thank God for the leadership of our Director of Choirs, Mr. Frank Williams, and the vision of Dr. Paula Harrell. We trust that the choir will continue to minister under the anointing of the Holy Spirit and always be the instrument of praise that God had planned it to be.
